Diversity vs. Unity

My mother brought up an interesting concept = whenever we have a diverse population at an event - we seem to have incidents of conflict and unrest. The less diverse a group is the more likely that group will work together as a unit.

Why do we have issues so much with differences?

We can't seem to handle diversity no matter how much we preach it on social media or to the next generation. It is a sad fact but each generation proves that it can't handle diversity.

Unity seems to come from having something in common with the group. If the group is too diversified, then no one can relate with each other. Hence, the fighting and back stabbing.

This is why you see less crime in areas of the world where there is little change in the population - remote areas of the world that have stayed the same for the most part for several decades. Closed borders / Strict and unchanging government / Isolation from the rest of the world = these things can keep diversity from ever showing itself in your area.

Which is better? Peace and stagnancy? Or Unrest and change?

I do not have the answer.

Take care,

LK
