Elephant in the Room

My mother was noticing how so many people these days avoid the major issue and focus on insignificant things instead. Why do we ignore the elephant in the room?
The answer is = We are cowards. We can't cope. We can't deal with the real issue that is causing all the problems. So we ignore the elephant and focus on something smaller like the fly in the room.
Examples of this = poor movies - because political groups are using movies to promote their ideas - ideas that no one wants to hear - so no one goes to see the movies. Instead of discussing this - people focus on other things like - expensive tickets, poor acting, etc. Other examples of this = city shutting down = why - because many middle class families move out and all that is left is the poor class. No one wants to state this so they make excuses like the lack of federal aid or bad government officials.
There are many examples of this. Too many to mention. We seem to be unable to deal with the elephant in the room = even when it is sitting on us and suffocating us.
I don't see this changing in the future - since the next generation is equally unable to cope with anything serious. We see this in the job market = young kids bringing their mother with them to a job interview because they can't go alone. It is very sad and disturbing.
I wonder if the elephants will take over the world.
Take care,
LK
