Ohhh! The good old days of retiring at the same job you started with.

My father retired a few years ago from his job. He joined this company after he came out of the military. He retired with his pension and is living the retired life at home.

As for me, I've lost count the amount of jobs that I've had since I graduated from the University of New Orleans. Some lasted a few months and some a few years. Regardless, I can't help thinking = what happened to an employer being loyal to his employee till the end? What happened to a job working with you instead of against you? Why do most jobs seem to implode around you = forcing you to look elsewhere so that you don't end up on a slab with a toe tag on your foot?

I remember when I was considering teaching in high school a friend of mine told me a terrible tale of a high school in New Orleans. There was a teacher that was extremely close to becoming tenured. The high school fired him right before he reached the designated time. It was all deliberate. All I could think was = what the hell?!?

These days employers are complaining about difficulties with employees. They can't get them and they can't retain them. And they don't know why?

Here's a clue = employee morale is at it's all time low!

Why? = because employers are not treating their employees well. It's not just about wages = although, many are depressed at low wages because of our inflation issues in America. It is also about respect. Employers these days are treating their employees like dirt = excessive overtime, lack of benefits, and poor management behavior at the workplace.

So many people are working more than 40 hours a week = which means how in the hell can these people have a personal life? How can they see their families? How can they take care of their homes? How can they do anything but work!

I wrote two humor books that reflect some of the stress that workers are dealing with at the workplace. One reflects on the dangers of being too friendly with co-workers at work = "If a Co-Worker Gives You a Good-Morning..." The other book reflects on bosses going too far and breaking their employees = "If Your Boss Asks For Help..." Both books are available on Amazon.

Take care,

Lindsay Kennen
