Silent House

Haunted houses are a concept that we've heard many times. Whether you believe in them or not doesn't matter. You've heard of them so you know what I'm talking about.
For me, I've always thought of haunted houses in a more personal manner. If I have bad memories tied to the house than I can't live there. The house is haunted to me. My bad memories make it haunted. The mind can't purge really awful memories. It stores them. If the memories are connected to a house, then the house will keep those memories active in your mind. You will never have any peace.
It doesn't matter what you do with the house. You can paint it. You can change the furniture. You can change the entire inside of the house. It won't matter. The memories will keep coming to you. Even if you tear the house down, the lot will hold those memories. The land is as haunted as the house. The two go together.
On a personal note, I felt this way about a relative's house. I had bad memories of this house. I had no good memories associated with this house. So when the relative died in the house, I was glad that I no longer had to go to that house. When it is a relative, you feel obligated to visit especially when this relative is extremely old and alone. If the relative was unpleasant, then the visits were unpleasant.
The house was sold. No one in the family wanted it. Technically, there was nothing wrong with the house. It was an old farmhouse in the country with a couple of acres around it. It was sold cheap.
I recently looked at a picture of the house on the internet. Someone bought it but didn't take care of it or the land. Pine trees took over the acres and now you can barely see the house on the lot. The only thing I can see of the house is a part of the top of the house. Ironically, now it looks like a haunted house.
In conclusion, I firmly believe in haunted houses. Mainly because I believe that anything that the mind can create can affect us personally. If my mind can image it, then it can hurt me. You can image your dead relative in the room = staring at you = watching you.
Take care,
Lindsay Kennen
